How to Feel Confident, Elegant and Sexy: bringing out the DIVA in you!

Are you tired of looking blah? Boring? Plain? Every woman goes through phases of blah-ness, and oddly enough some never come out of them. So if you are ready to revamp, rev-up your look and turn lot's of heads, no matter what your body shape, keep reading. Take simple and fabulous tips from one of the top Image Consultants in the industry…having turned many "pretty women" into "gorgeous women" with her "diva-do's" and "diva-don'ts"! Don't you want to leave them all wondering…what's HER secret?

Steps

  1. Invest in a good pair of jeans - curve hugging jeans. Dark denim looks good on all body types and it timeless. Jeans are the ultimate sexy accessory when paired with a tank top or baby tee. Up it a notch and add some strappy heels, all divas love strappy, but comfort is a must.
  2. Wear make-up, but not too much. Subtle is sexy. Lip gloss creates a dewy and playful glow. For a dramatic, sexy look for eyes, use dark eye shadow like plum or dark brown with black eyeliner. Panache has exceptionally talented make-up artists who are ready to make you over for that special occasion or give you "diva-do" make-up lessons; lessons by a professional who listens to your wishes, desired effect and takes your lifestyle into consideration. AND, you'll know exactly how achieve your new look by yourself, just as gorgeous, without having to invite the make-up artist home with you!
  3. Remember that black is sexy. It hides fat rolls, creates curves and makes you feel like a goddess! One short, black, sexy evening dress is a must for every woman. As a diva, you'll want one that is not too low cut, but shows some cleavage, short but not to the point you're afraid to lean over. Diva's are expert at finding a neat hide-away boutique that other diva-wanna-be's don't shop or couldn't find. Shopping out of Vicky's Secret may be perfect for lingerie, but millions of women may be walking around in that same short, sexy, black dress that was on the cover of this month's issue. A diva disaster.
  4. Start with a good shower and shampoo every morning so your hair is squeaky clean. If you don't completely shampoo out all of your conditioner, you'll probably have that limpy, wimpy, no bounce, bad-hair-day we all suffer through occasionally but don't have to. Panache can also recommend one of their many fabulous hair products from their Framesi line, personalized to your hair, also ensuring never having a bad hair day! Next, massage a beautiful scented body crème all over your body. A body crème is silkier, creamier and gives your skin an extra softness all day (body crème's don't have to be pricy either, check Walgreen's Drug Store for a great selection of body crèmes). If possible, layer with a perfume or body spray in the same fragrance as your crème (they are sold in sets or both can be bought in the same aroma.) Buy to match your personality or try a smell unlike what you usually wear, much more fun and likely to be noticed! The ultimate in layering and a secret mainly known to the true divas is match with the same fragrance in a shower/bath body wash to start with in the shower, you'll never be over-kill but you'll be swamped with compliments all day. When time allows at night, light the candles, fill the tub with a lavender (for relaxation) bubble bath and toss some rose petals on the water to spoil the princess within you. A little spa music cd and a short glass of wine will have you in the clouds and feeling totally pampered, a necessity for all divas.
  5. Every diva knows, to look the part, shaping and defining your eyebrows is a must. Groomed eyebrows can dramatically change your look from frumpy to vixen, especially if you have not done this before or don't normally have them professionally done. Your best bet is to visit Panache and get them waxed. It's not as painful as people say at all, and will only cost you about 15 dollars. Or, you can take a chance and pluck them. Just remember to follow your natural contour, and try not to pluck off of the top of the brow, only the bottom.
  6. Consider getting a little sun-kissed glow. Tanning is extinct, going away with the alligator skin that accompanied prior sun-worshippers (strap a handle on your back and you'd be a purse without sunscreen)… not to mention the wrinkles that will cost you a fortune in facial surgeries to attempt to minimize or hide! Try sunless tanner-- it is wonderful and so many celebrities use it now. The hottest new technique in Hollywood that all the Academy Award Celebs are using is the airbrush tan and airbrush make-up. Again, check with Panache regularly as it TOO is coming soon! The best recommendations for self tanners are Neutrogena's spray self tanner, almost impossible to mess up, streak or turn orange. For facial tanners choose one with an instant bronzer in it so you can tell where it is going on and how thick. If you want an authentic glow, use a sun block SPF of at least 15 while laying in the sun. Divas note, apply sunscreen every morning under make-up, no exceptions, the extra couple of minutes. definitely shop Panache for Sothys of Paris sunscreens which are unmatched) or on clean skin is a diva-do for sure.

Newly added: "Diva Do's"

  • Pick stylish, not trendy, clothes that flatter your figure (check out the latest magazines for ideas) and that you feel comfortable in. There's no point picking the latest fashions if you don't feel comfortable in them! Pick clothes that still make you feel "like you" but make a stretch occasionally and go out of your “comfort zone” (emotionally) for styles you don’t normally wear in some fun, new flattering colors… guaranteeing to boost your morale. Shopping is a diva's best friend, but divas are also frugal and love great deal…check out TJMaxx Stores, Ross Stores (a hit or miss, you may want to visit a couple of times) as they sell the same designer clothes found in the finest of department stores. No diva is too good to pass up a great consignment store either, some merchandise still has tags on it and has never been worn. Try The Hibiscus place on Las Olas for all kinds of diva finds for finds they’ll swear you paid a mint for! Diva-don’t suggestion, never tell where you shop, just say, “oh I think I bought this beautiful bracelet on vacation, thank you for the compliment. Always have to look the part, but doesn’t mean it has to cost the look! A definite “diva-do”, show your confidence or work on your confidence by mixing up what might have become your “uniform wardrobe”. Shock them all with a few additions that are unique and far from your normal style and colors. It gets more comfortable with every new compliment, give it a shot, after all you want to be a diva right? Diva’s take chances, always.
  • Practice good dental hygiene. Brush and floss. Use mints. People may not want to kiss you if you have bad breath. Whitening is in, the brighter the smile, the more you’ll want to smile. Diva’s always smile because they are sooooo together.
  • To really feel “diva-ish”, try a full service spa manicure especially one which includes a fabulous paraffin treatment (which at Panache all spa manicures include a revitalizing sea salt arm massage!). The paraffin dip will soften your hands to absolute silk. A must, finish off with a bold choice of a brighter or unique “walk on the wild side” color of polish that you’d normally shy away from. Red is always “hot” and always in style. Every diva takes as good care of her feet as regularly as her hands, so book a spa pedicure in a relaxing chair since you’re there at the spa anyway. Close your eyes and ask for extra time for the massage part if they have time (it is heavenly, just remember that diva’s always tip well for receiving the excellent service they seek). And as long as we’re talking salons and spas, check out Panache’s luxurious new salon/spa packages ranging from a couple hours to an all day extravaganza. After all, you are a deserving diva, or will certainly look and feel like one after one of these!

"Diva Don’ts"…

  • Don't overdo it, hair, make-up, tight jeans, etc.. It is always obvious when someone tries too hard. Diva’s find middle ground and balance in all of their life, including their beauty secrets.
  • More than anything, be yourself. Being sexy is about being confident and comfortable.
  • In the eyes of some, genuine beauty is highly preferential to "sexiness". Genuine beauty is not necessarily pertaining to that which glitters and glows [i.e. make-up, high-heels, jewelry, tight-jeans].
  • Good posture is a must. Girls that slump their shoulders call attention to their worst features. Posture has a lot to do with being sexy as well. If you feel confident and walk like you know you're hot, everyone else will think so too. Shoulders back, and walk with a bit of a strut. You know you're beautiful, so let everyone else know it!
  • Wear skirts once in a while. They are feminine and flirty.
  • Don't go overboard with makeup. You want people to appreciate your natural beauty, so use makeup as a tool to accent your best features.

Beauty News: What's Hot & Happening In Makeup

This month's beauty news:
MAKE-UP
What's hot now are luscious, fresh, pink lips and cheeks paired with strong vibrant colors on your eyes. From passionate pinks to sheerer raspberry glossy lips, pinks definitely ruled the runways this past spring for summer looks now. You may have always been told not to wear pink with your coloring or hair, this is not the case. It is the shade and depth of pink you choose that when properly chosen will flatter most any face.

To create this fall's smoky eye, use shades of teal, deep sea green, even turquoise with a bit of shimmer to avoid looking dated. Just remember, strong eye colors draw attention to any flaws. Make sure your brows are in tip top shape and for evening add a few additional individual eyelashes on the outer corner of the eye.

Intense black eyeliner is back as a counterpart to the season's new paler pink lip. In order to achieve a dramatic look, make-up artists are lining eyes from corner to corner on top and bottom for a cat eye look. The trick to keeping it flattering is to apply a truly thin line very close to the eye. Using black liner on the inner rims enlarges them and makes the whites of the eye look whiter.

Panache is proud to offer you only the finest in make-up products by Sothys of Paris. And of course will gladly book an appointment with one of their experienced, talented and professional make-up artists who know how to achieve whatever look you are seeking. From an everyday look using some of summer's trendiest colors and applications, to giving you a glamorous, dramatic evening look, you will never be disappointed or feel uncomfortable. Our make-up artists work with you toward your desired finished look, not what THEY believe you should be wearing; the goal is to give you the look you've longed for and will continue to wear. They listen and make an assessment of your features and coloring. Hi

I know my stylist at Panache is always happy to give me a free bang trim in-between cuts. But if I am out of town or unable to get in, can you give me the proper steps in trimming my own bangs? Bangs are so in style right now and I love wearing them, but my worst fear is cutting them crooked or the dreaded too SHORT--a lesson I learned the hard way for which there is no corrective measure other than letting them grow out!

Thanks for your invaluable advice,

P.R. in Pembroke Pines

Hi "P",
Thanks for writing. I'll be glad to share this helpful beauty secret, its fairly simple and good to know for those of you with kids as well. And you are correct, bangs are the signature hair commonality for Fall and Winter.

Bangs can be very sexy. Whether you want blunt-cut bangs or romantic fringe, it's helpful to know how to trim your own bangs.

You are also correct in that Panache will always be happy to do a free bang trim, but if you find yourself unable to come in and want to cut your own bangs, here's how to do it yourself. All you need are sharp scissors that are pointed and no longer than 5 inches (Tip: it's best to buy them a beauty supply store).

Difficulty: Easy

Time Required: 10 minutes

Here's How:

  1. Always start with dry hair. You never want to cut your bangs while wet because they'll shrink when dry and look too short. If you usually blow-dry your bangs, apply styling gel then dry. If you usually wash & wear, then let them air dry.
  2. Using a comb, precisely section off the hair you don't want to cut. You can put the other hair in a ponytail or pin it up with bobby pins. But only your bangs should be left loose.
  3. Divide your bangs in half using a styling comb. (Styling combs have baby-fine teeth). Take one half and comb bangs down with the comb teeth facing out. Rest the comb on your brow bone. Don't cut your bangs any shorter than where the comb hits your face.
  4. Skip to step 5 if you have shaggy, face-framing bangs Start 'point-cutting' or snipping the hair at a 45-degree angle. Work slowly, doing a bit at a time. Never cuts bangs straight across since it's impossible to keep a perfectly straight line.
  5. Important note; If you have shaggy, face-framing bangs, skip the scissors & instead use a brand-new, disposable single-blade razor (double & triple blades will split hair). Celeb stylist Chris McMillan swears in the October 2006 issue of Allure magazine that razors work much better than scissors. To razor cut, pull bangs taut with your middle & index fingers. Slide fingers all the way down to end of hair & then razor cut the hair just above your fingers.
  6. Repeat 'point-cutting' on the other half.
  7. If your bangs are too dense, you can add layers. Simply take a portion of the bangs between 2 fingers & pulling the hair vertically above your head. Slide your hand up towards the ends, letting some hair fall. Lower your fingers an inch down the hair section and point-cut or razor cut (a half-inch at most) above your fingers.
  8. If you have long, face-framing layers, check to make sure the length is even by pulling a piece of hair from either side of toward the center of your face -- they should be equidistant from the bridge of your nose, according to McMillan.

Tips:

  • You'll want to invest in a pair of sharp, high-quality scissors designed to cut hair. You can get these at beauty supply stores. Utility scissors that have been used to cut paper or cloth are too dull for cutting hair.
  • If you have long, shaggy, face-framing bangs, use a razor instead of scissors to trim bangs. Scissors can slip & cut hair unevenly, while a razor is more exact.

What You Need:

  • high-quality scissors
  • styling comb
  • styling gel
  • mirror
  • disposable, single-blade razor
